From a photography workshop to a wedding in Positano
I first met Derek when he joined one of my photography workshops in Cappadocia, Turkey. Years later, in 2025, I was there to photograph his wedding to Amy on the Amalfi Coast. Seeing someone go from workshop participant to groom made this celebration especially personal.
That existing connection gave us a relaxed starting point. It is how I like to work with every couple: get to know each other before the wedding, so you can enjoy the celebration and feel comfortable in front of the camera.
A pre-wedding boat shoot on the Amalfi Coast
The day before the wedding, Derek and Amy joined me for a private boat trip along the coast. With prosecco, sea air and the cliffs behind them, it was a lovely way to spend time together before the celebrations began.
As the sun dropped, warm light reflected off the water. A separate couple shoot gives us time to make portraits without taking you away from your wedding guests. For Derek and Amy, the boat trip became its own part of the story.
A terrace wedding at Hotel Marincanto
Derek and Amy chose Hotel Marincanto for their June wedding in Positano. Their ceremony took place on the hotel’s terrace, with the sea and the Amalfi Coast cliffs as the backdrop. Guests had travelled from around the world to be there.
I photograph the setting as well as what happens within it: a wide view of the terrace, the couple’s expressions and the reactions of the people around them. Together, those photographs bring you back to both the place and the feeling of the day.

The warmth and energy of Derek and Amy’s guests made the day. After the ceremony, the celebration continued with Italian food, heartfelt speeches and dancing into the night. The Hotel Marincanto team looked after the details throughout.
